Viewing checklist
A practical list of things to inspect during an apartment or home visit.
- Test doors, windows, locks, lights, outlets, faucets, showers, toilets, appliances, heating, and cooling where possible.
- Look for signs of leaks, dampness, mold, cracks, pests, poor ventilation, damaged flooring, or recent cover-up repairs.
- Notice light, storage, room dimensions, noise from neighbors or streets, and how furniture would realistically fit.
- Inspect shared spaces such as entryways, elevators, laundry areas, parking, trash areas, stairs, and exterior lighting.
- Ask what repairs will be completed before move-in and how those promises will be documented.
- Take notes and photos when allowed so details can be reviewed later without relying on memory.
