How to compare rental listings

A simple desk setup for comparing rental options

Rental listings are easier to compare when each option is reduced to the same basic facts: total monthly cost, lease length, move-in costs, included utilities, location, and condition.

Look past the headline rent. A lower advertised price may be less useful if parking, utilities, service fees, or commuting costs are higher.

Keep a simple side-by-side note for each listing. Include what is confirmed, what is unclear, and what still needs to be asked before a viewing or application.
