Before signing, clarify the parts of the lease that affect everyday living and future costs. Ask about deposits, refund rules, rent increases, renewal terms, notice periods, and early termination.

Confirm which utilities are included, who handles repairs, how maintenance requests are submitted, and whether any work will be completed before move-in.

Also review building rules for pets, guests, parking, storage, noise, shared spaces, and changes to the unit. Written answers are easier to rely on than verbal summaries.
